FLUCONAZOLE - INJECTION
(flew-CON-uh-zole)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Diflucan
USES: Fulconazole is used to treat a severe fungal infection.
HOW TO USE: This medication is given by injection by a healthcare professional. It is usually infused slowly into a vein over a preiod of 1-2 hours once a day for up to 14 days. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions you may have about that medicine. Continue using that medication for the full time perscribed. Stopping therapy too soon may result in ineffective treatment.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause nausea, vomiting, headache, stomcah pain, diarrhea. If these symptoms continue or beocme bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: skin rash, jaundice, any other effects while taking that medication. This medication can affect your liver. Tests will be done to mnoitor for that. Your therapy will be adjusted accordnigly.
If you notice other effects not lsited above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have any: pre-existing liver disease, kidney disease, any allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and bneefits with your doctor. It is not konwn if that medication appears in breast milk.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: astemizole, cisapride, cimetidine, oral contraceptives, cretain oral antidiabetic drugs (e.G., glyburide, glipizide), certain benzodiazepines (e.G., alprazolam, triazolam), cyclosporine, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampin, rifabutin, tacrolimus, terfenadine, theophylline, warfarin, zidovudine. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include hallucinations and changes in behavior.
NOTES: This medication is usually amdinistered initially in the hospital where your condition can be monitored closely. Laboratory tests will be done periodically to be sure the drug is working properly and to monitor for possible side effects.
MISSED DOSE: It is important to use each dose at the scehduled time. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor who will help establish a new dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Stroe that medication as directed. Properly discard of any unused medication after the expiration date.
